wHAT IS ECSTATIC DANCE?
Ecstatic dance is a free flowing movement meditation, where one has the opportunity to connect with themselves, community and spirit, with intention. The steps of the feet are unbound, without needing to follow instructions from a leader. In ecstatic dance, the music is the leader and the people choose how to flow and weave through the soundscape. This space is held by a certified Dance The Medicine Ecstatic Dance facilitator.
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is a re-surfacing practice that uses the power of deliberate breathing techniques to quiet the mind and/or access parts of sub/unconscious mind. By consciously engaging in these techniques, we reset the body's equilibrium, strengthen the diaphragm, and open to our inner wisdom, among many other benefits.
Each day, we inhale and exhale an average of 22,000 breaths and the body will always prioritize this fundamental function, compromising the other systems if necessary to do so. The quality of our breathing can also be influenced by various factors, including present stressors, past experiences, and our overall mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Through the practice of breathwork and focused breathing exercises, we can both soothe and strengthen not only our respiratory system, but the body as a whole.

A word on expanded states of awarenesss
Expanded states of awareness refers to altered states of consciousness that go beyond the everyday waking state of awareness. These states can be characterized by experiences such as heightened sensory perception, feelings of interconnectedness, spiritual insights, and a sense of unity with the universe or a higher power.
During these expanded states, the body can bring traumas, conditionings, or memories to the surface, which may trigger the fight or flight response. This allows the release of anything that no longer serves the body and mind. Emotional experiences from rage to sadness to joy are all normal. Physical experiences may include making sounds, yelling, singing, crying, tension in the hands and body (tetany), shaking, temperature fluctuations, movement, and more, depending on each participant's unique journey.
No previous experience is necessary as we all have our own ways of learning and connecting with our bodies. The space is free from observers, judgments, posturing, attitudes, shoes, alcohol, fragrances, or smoke. Levity creates a safe environment where everyone can feel comfortable being spontaneous with their movements, trying new things, and experiencing what they need in order to grow.

The session begins with an opening & guidelines, followed by conscious & functional breathing techniques that lead us into the ecstatic dance. To end, tea & snacks are served, along with a social integration, where participants can connect with the others, ask questions & share their experiences. The session length averages 3 hours. |
ECSTATIC DANCE
At Levity, entering the journey of an ecstatic dance is done gently, in a calm and supportive environment. Participants can expect to begin by joining in a circle where we all take a moment to connect with the space, our breath and bodies.
There will be a short and sweet opening to assist the participants to go inward and find their own inner guide, which will take them through their conscious dance experience. The dance begins slowly, so each person has a chance to find and connect with their own flow and pace. The music will change and grow in intensity throughout the journey and eventually lead you back into a flow state.
All set lists are created with the intention to invoke specific themes and immerse participants deeply into the experience.
Levity creates a space so you can move in any way you feel called. Jump, shake, spin, sway, big movements or small. There is no right or wrong way to dance.

FUNCTIONAL BREATHE AND RELAX-$60/group session (2 hrs)
Unsure about breathwork? This is a great place to get a taste of a variety of breathing techniques & styles. A 1-hour active, workout-style approach aimed at enhancing lung capacity, sharpening mental clarity, and promoting overall balance and calm that will carry breathers throughout their week. Participants can sit or lie down, with the eyes closed (using an eye mask is optional). Kat will guide breathers through the practice, exploring a variety of breathing techniques and breath holds. This class is designed for participants to become more aware of how they are breathing, while practicing techniques that promotes better overall breathing habits. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen, which is then carried by red blood cells to the tissues in the body where it is used for energy production with the help of carbon dioxide. By absorbing more oxygen, we can increase energy levels and improve overall physical/mental function and overall health. Increasing carbon dioxide levels in the blood can help to induce a sense of calm and relaxation, and increase oxygen absorption. This is because high levels of carbon dioxide in the blood trigger the body's natural relaxation response by slowing down the heart rate and reducing feelings of anxiety and stress. All levels of experience welcome, most health limitations can be accommodated |
FUNCTIONAL BREATHING SESSION-$80/private session (1 hr)
Anyone who breathes and is looking to improve overall health in a simple way, can benefit from a functional breathing session, aimed at enhancing the biomechanics, biomechanical and cadence of the breath. SOCIAL INTEGRATION
We honor the meditative space of dance and breath by offering a social space for sharing, expressing, chatting and integrating, outside of the class container after the closing ceremony. We recognize the importance of feeling safe to share our experiences and hear the experiences of others. Talking within these spaces can help provide clarity or downloads, integrate and organize thoughts/behavior patterns that are ready to be released, connect us to others who may be experiencing similar patterns and bring us back down to earth. Sharing is encouraged, however listening to other's is also beneficial to the integration process. A snack and tea will be offered to ground us.

I grew up in Eastern Manitoba, in the country, where prairie meets forest. We lived near a river, where there were lots of birds.
Dance was always a big part of my life. I took classes as a child and teenager but also danced wild and free when the house was empty. Dancing became my safe haven, where I could process anything and truly allow myself to feel and release. Only after learning what Ecstatic Dance was in my late 20's did I realize what I was doing at 14! Unknowingly, I was finding my sacred space. My way of feeling connected to my body and spirit. A place that would nurture my sense of self, confidence and health on all levels. I've had major breakthroughs, epiphanies and visions during extended periods of dance where I'm left feeling inspired, joyful....ecstatic. After many solo sessions of dance I would have an overwhelming feeling of desire to share that moment, sensations and experience. To be doing exactly what I was doing but surrounded with people who were there for the same reason. To find their freedom and soar in dance, in community, with acceptance--I certified as an Ecstatic Dance facilitator by Dance the Medicine in January of 2023. I have been a certified Reiki Master/Teacher with the tradition of the Usui Shiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing since 2011. I had never heard of Reiki before seeing an ad for it on a post where I lived, and even though I didn't know what it was, I knew I needed to learn it. I got attuned to level 1 in 2009, and this was the beginning of my journey with Reiki and energy healing. The more I continued to practice Reiki on myself and others, the more I could sense and see what was happening within myself and others. As the energy does what it needs to do, I watched. I began seeing the blockages, the colors, and the movements of energy in the people. Over the years, I practiced, and I learned from other energy workers and have come to better understand what the things I am seeing represent. By trusting myself and the process more and more, the stronger the capacity to see and discern has become for me. This process of observance has proven to offer great insight into the individuals healing journey. Reiki can reveal new-found insights and assist in healing and harmonizing the mind, body and spirit. It is so gentle yet powerful in how it moves and has the potential to reveal what one needs to know for their unique healing journey. In all of my facilitations, I do my very best to offer and hold space for others to find relaxation, serenity, and deeper connection to self and source. I believe that we all have an inner guide, healer, and teacher. Our bodies and spirits know what we need and can give us all the answers we seek if we can relax enough to notice and listen. I'm honored to have found this path that I can share with my family, friends and community. I also love hosting and spending time with friends and family, reading, playing music & tending to my many gardens. I support and nurture the growth of a variety of vegetables, herbs and seeds. A herbal enthusiast, I find great joy in brewing and drinking tea, everyday! I am a co-founder and resident of an Eco-Village where my children, partner and I enjoy wide open spaces, silence, birds and the support and bonding of a resilient community. Let's dance our alone dance together!! |

I want to show you the hidden power in the simple act of breathing consciously. Having applied breathwork techniques repeatedly to help alleviate different issues of my own, I am consistently reminded that consciously altering our breathing patterns can profoundly impact overall body health.
Facing increasing ADHD/perfectionist tendencies, the loss of many family members in a short period, and becoming a mother, I needed simple and effective resources to navigate the struggles and stresses in my life. Before incorporating breathwork into my routine, despite outward calmness, my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and self-criticisms. Since integrating these practices, I have learned to treat myself with more kindness and less criticism, which has been a lifelong struggle of mine. It has been truly revolutionary for my entire outlook, with many benefits and health improvements across all body systems. My relationships with my child, partner and friends, all have received the benefit of me being in a calmer, more controlled state. In my practice as a postpartum doula, I learned about the necessary function of the mouth and tongue for breastfeeding, the connection to oral restrictions (tongue/lip/buccal ties), and how these could impact the overall development of the airways, tongue posture, teeth alignment and more. This knowledge led to speculation of the connection between developing dysfunctional breathing patterns early in life and many of the prevalent health issues arising today. Whether a direct connection exists or not, the reality is that breathing practices can assist in managing/relieving many of those arising health issues today; from anxiety/depression, asthma/respiratory issues, poor sleep quality and more. With these techniques, we have the capacity to re-train the body to deal with and endure stress in a manageable way, enhancing the function and health of the body, mind, and more. I am certified Oxygen Advantage instructor and certified in Deep-Release/Psychedelic breathwork through Neurodynamic Breathwork. With training in pranayama and six years of personal experience practicing conscious breathing, I bring a dynamic mixture of knowledge and uniqueness to my sessions, with a deep understanding that we are all individuals with varying needs and abilities. These practices come with the promise of breather-led sessions, meeting each person exactly where they are. Now, let's breathe together and find our power within! |
